The Sport Entertainment and Venues Tomorrow (SEVT) conference is pleased to announce its 5th annual undergraduate student case study competition, which will take place on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Columbia, SC at the Columbia Marriott downtown.

The competition will consist of team members compiling a 15-minute oral presentation to a panel of expert academic and industry judges. Competing teams will be randomly assigned to one of two groups, from which the top team from each group (as decided by group’s respective judges) will be announced at the awards dinner Thursday evening, March 23rd. The two teams will present their solutions to all of our judges at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24th.

Further details and the official undergraduate case study competition rules are listed below.

The winning team will be awarded a trophy on Friday morning, March 24th after the two top teams compete and the judges deliberate. In addition, the team’s school will be awarded five (5) registration passes (four students, one advisor) for next year’s SEVT conference.

Teams should be comprised of no more than four (4) currently enrolled undergraduate students. A total of eight (8) teams can be accommodated and are selected on a “first come, first served” basis.

Academic Advisor

Each team should have an academic advisor to serve solely as a liaison between the team and the SEVT Case Study Coordinator. The advisor should not be involved in the case study analysis or presentation preparation, and must be identified and approved by the organizers of the 2017 SEVT conference.

Registration Deadline

Each advisor should send a registration e-mail to Dr. Khalid Ballouli, the Case Study Coordinator for the SEVT conference, at by 5:00 p.m. ET on Monday, January 23, 2017.    E-mails should contain the institution name, names of all team members (if available), and an agreement to register for the competition. For details concerning registration fees please visit the registration page.

Competition Timeline

The case study and guidelines will be sent to each team’s advisor on Wednesday, March 15th. All oral presentations will be given starting at 8:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 23rd at the Columbia Marriott, unless otherwise noted.

Each team’s presentation should be no longer than 15 minutes in length and will be followed by approximately five (5) minutes of questions from the judges. The use of PowerPoint or other presentation technology is permitted and encouraged.

Additional details about the case study competition will be distributed to all registered teams on February 2, 2017. Please submit any questions related to the student case study competition to Dr. Khalid Ballouli at
